Thoughts to ponder in regards to Generation X: Generation X is the last generation.

The last generation to work on its own cars.
The last generation to fight on the playground without a bunch of tattling pansies.
The last generation both to get laid and later settle down for marriage.
The last generation to shoot guns at animals for sport as children.
The last generation to shop at record stores.
The last generation without a cellphone growing up.
The last generation to hurt players on the football field without being ejected.
The last generation to make music with actual instruments.
The last generation to buy non-flat screen televisions.
The last generation to read books.

The last generation of what was best. I think we lost some things when those experiences became less than commonplace.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0Wisconsin, USA43.7844397 -88.78786780000001538.0259217 -99.115016300000008 49.5429577 -78.460719300000022tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8091475591024659164.post-27309760315023621052017-01-06T21:24:00.002-06:002017-01-06T21:24:25.565-06:00Interview with astronaut James Warden:I thought this would be interesting to re-blog here: Interview with astronaut James Warden Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8091475591024659164.post-57023434315180564862015-05-20T22:45:00.000-05:002015-05-20T22:45:02.696-05:00Another two to three weeks … Lake Winnipeg to James Bay. In another 2 to 3 weeks, I shall be off for another canoeing adventure, this time across Canada. From Lake Winnipeg to James Bay -- either Fort Albany or Moose Factory. If the crew and I decide upon Moose Factory, this will give me the opportunity to take the Ontario Northland train from Moosonee, make a connection to the Algoma Central train, and then to Saulte Sainte Marie, Ontario. Cross 3 items off of the bucket list in this trip.

Meanwhile, I have been making a list, crossing things off, and adding more items, for the trip. This is exciting. There is planning for another 60 - 65 days on the trail. I've watched kayakers cross the lake next to my property, and, it looks as though they're having fun, despite the weather being as mercurial as it has been. Even the wind of the other day failed to deter a determined kayaker or three. I'm looking forward to getting out on the water myself within the next two or three weeks. Also looking forward to having some new gear to review, which I shall post here. So far, they seem to be working rather good. I would recommend against wearing them in any workplace that contains tripping or slipping hazards, though. So waiters or waitresses, avoid wearing these shoes at work -- wait until your time off.
The four lakes that comprise the Madison area are good environments for one to get one's canoeing fix. I also encourage folks to get out there and get your Boater's Safety license from the State. I think that sooner or later, the State of Wisconsin will require boaters, canoeists, and kayakers to have this training and license. It is a book that I have co-authored with the other crew member, Fred, who completed the trip with me. It is the story of a crew who began with seven, and finished the trip with only the two oldest members. The others, who chose to quit, really missed out on the trip of a lifetime.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8091475591024659164.post-9687575662825504952012-03-03T19:32:00.011-06:002012-03-03T20:35:26.797-06:00
This blog is about me, and my canoeing, and other things that interest me. I also have a book coming out in the next several weeks, another subject of this blog.

During 2008, I participated in a long distance canoe trip from Lake Superior to Hudson's Bay. This trip was on historic waterways, lasted 67 days, and covered approximately 1500 miles. In these ways the trip differs from other trips that have gone from Minnesota to York Factory, Manitoba.

We started the trip by crossing the Grand Portage, from the shores of the continent's largest ice box, Lake Superior. It was a challenging trail, traversing 9 miles from Lake Superior to the Pigeon River. I had been on this trail four years before, going eastbound. Going westbound was exponentially more difficult, and took over five hours longer, as our group was carrying full loads of fuel and supply.
Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0
