Summer political violence timeline, 2020

This is a timeline, and isn't intended to be inclusive:

May 2020: Antifa involvement with the George Floyd protests in Minneapolis.  This includes the May 28th incident where the MSNBC reporter stood in front of a burning building in downtown MSP, claiming, “This is mostly a protest.  It is not, generally speaking, unruly.”  Some 170 buildings are damaged.

May 28: Riots begin in Phoenix, Denver, Indianapolis, Columbus OH, NYC, Los Angeles, Portland, Seattle, Richmond VA, Atlanta, Chicago, Salt Lake City, Milwaukee, Dallas, and DC.  The DC riots require the Secret Service to step in and protect the White House, with multiple agents injured by the protesters.

May 30:  Riots begin in Oakland, resulting in 2 Federal law enforcement officers getting shot.  One dies.  Riots continue in DC,NYC, SF, with 33 NYPD officers being injured.  Riots begin Rochester NY, with officials later stating that the riots were “very organized.”  Riots continue in the cities listed previously.  Riots begin in Philadelphia, with officers being injured.

May 31: Riots continue in MSP, with 6000 people blocking I- 35.  Of note, a truck driver is pulled from his cab and beaten ( between this and What happened to Reginald Denny in the Rodney King LA riots, I don’t see any other truck drivers risking their safety by stopping during any protests ).  NYC Deputy Commissioner Miller claims groups use encrypted messaging apps in advance of the protests to raise bail money and recruit medics, anticipating violence with police.  The groups also developed supply routes to transport gas, rocks, and bottles during the protests.  One of every 7 is from out of state.  Riots continue in the cities previously mentioned.

June:  Clashes begin in Seattle.  Riots continue in other cities.  FL National Guard is deployed to Fort Lauderdale.  Police in Davenport IA are ambushed, with 2 people being killed.  St. Louis:  4 officers shot during riots, with a former police officer being killed.

June 2:  Protests continue in DC.  The Attorney General sends additional Federal agents to Miami.  4 more officers shot during riots in St. Louis.  Riots continue in Philadelphia.

June 3:  Federal agents deployed to DC to quell riots.  CA National Guard called out in San Diego and La Mesa.  Brooklyn has 2 more officers shot dealing with looters.

June 4:  Bronx Commissioner Shea claims the riots of the 3rd was directed by ‘outside agitators,’ who had “guns and gas, and stated that they were going to burn things down, injure cops, & cause mayhem.”

June 8: CHAZ comes to exist in Seattle, with the Seattle East precinct being abandoned.

June 10:  LA officials announce that homicides have increased 250% between May 31 & June 6.

June 19:  Rioters tear down a statue of Albert Pike in DC.  Rioters in San Francisco vandalize statues of St. Junipero Serra, Francis Scott Key, General U. S. Grant, Miguel Cervantes, Don Quixote, and Sancho Panza.

June 20:  2 shootings in CHAZ.

June 21:  3rd shooting in CHAZ

June 23:  4th shooting in CHAZ.  Huntsville AL police chief claims Antifa organized the violent protests in his city, with “Everything about Antifa was here on the back side of the event, not the front.”

June 29:  2 black teens shot in CHAZ, with reports stating that antifascist “security” shot them when their SUV was driving towards CHAZ.  Video evidence is posted on social media of anarchists removing evidence from the scene.

July 2:  Federal agents deploy to Portland in an effort to restore order.

July 2 - 16:  Statues in several cities are removed.  This is good as many of these statues were statues of Confederate traitors, who shouldn’t have their treason be dignified with statues.  Statue removal continues throughout the summer.

July 17:  Uprisings in Portland reach 50 consecutive days.

July 25:  A journalist is stabbed in Portland for videoing riots.  One protester shoots another in CO.  Another protester is killed in TX after aiming a rifle at a driver.

August 1:  Anarchists burn bibles and flags in Portland.

August 9:  Chicago’s “Magnificent Mile” is looted, with the Chicago mayor claiming afterwords that “the core of what happened — that’s criminal activity.  It was a planned attack.”
